Lucian, which gets its name from British painter Lucian Freud, is a bookstore and wine bar located in Buckhead in Atlanta, Georgia.
Stage One
Slightly imperfect, with a touch of seriousness and a somewhat flamboyant C, the intention of the typography in the mark was to capture the duality of Freud's imposing figure with his sensitive and considerate side.
The palette was inspired by a mix of 20th century artworks. Deep and rich tones were chosen to compliment the material solutions chosen for the interiors.
Stage Two
The wine list is a 44-page booklet full of wines from Europe, Patagonia, South Africa, and Australia. The client wanted something tactile that would show a little wear and tear over the course of a few months.
The exterior signage was the finishing touch. We were able to provide design guidance and the production and completion was spearheaded by Sieber Design with Denyse doing the work to determine the final materials and fabrication.
